Winter has finally begun, and as we enter the cold season it is essential to make sure that you are preparing your home for the winter months! We have prepared a checklist so that you can be ready for whatever the chilly weather brings. The new year is the perfect opportunity to tackle all the items on your list!
Check batteries in your Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detector
Not just during the winter, but always, it is important to ensure that the batteries in these devices are working. In the winter months, it is much more likely for heat to be the cause of a fire, so making sure the batteries are working before turning heat on is very important!
Clean your Fireplace and Chimney
If you regularly use your fireplace in your home, plan on having it cleaned out before you turn it on in 2022. This way, you can get rid of any miscellaneous debris that could be clogging your chimney.
Don’t let your pipes freeze!
It is important to make sure your home is insulated properly so that your pipes don't freeze. If a cold snap is coming, let cold water drip from your faucets as a simple way to prevent freezing as well. If you are going out of town and leave the home for an extended period of time, be sure to not let your heat go below 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
Clean your Gutters
It is always a good idea to make sure your gutters are cleaned out before winter. This way, you can prevent the debris inside them that builds up over time from causing damage to your roof and home in the event of an ice storm.
Reverse your Ceiling Fans
Reversing your ceiling fans (making them run in the opposite direction) is a great way to push heat down, especially in rooms with tall ceilings. This will help keep your house a lot warmer when it is cold outside!
We hope these tips and tricks help keep you warm into 2022!
