The Wells Fargo Championship is a renowned golf tournament hosted annually by the PGA Tour in Charlotte, North Carolina at world renowned Quail Hollow CC. Despite being held in Charlotte, the tournament has a significant association with Charleston, South Carolina.

This association is due to the event's host organization, Champions for Education, a non-profit based in Charlotte. Established in 2002 by prominent local business leaders, including Jerry Richardson, former owner of the Carolina Panthers NFL team, the organization aims to provide support for education and youth development in North and South Carolina.

Jerry Richardson, a native of Sumter, South Carolina, and an alumnus of Wofford College in Spartanburg, has strong ties to the region and is a well-known philanthropist. One of the ways in which Champions for Education provides support for education is through its partnership with Teach For America, to which a portion of the proceeds from the Wells Fargo Championship is donated each year. Teach For America is an organization that recruits and trains teachers to work in low-income communities across the United States, including Charleston.

Furthermore, the Wells Fargo Championship contributes significantly to the economic growth of both Charlotte and its surrounding regions, including Charleston. Although the tournament takes place in Charlotte, golf enthusiasts from Charleston and its neighboring areas travel to attend the event, creating a notable economic impact in the region.
