About Their James Island Home & Neighborhood

 

What features of your James Island home have you really enjoyed?

Some of the features of our James Island home that we love are that we are on a cul-de-sac and our children can play outside without having to worry about traffic. A favorite thing to do is sitting on our porch while the children play or even having some time to read and have my coffee in the morning while enjoying the beautiful landscape, sounds and sights of nature. I love family dinners in our dining room and entertaining friends and family outside by grilling out. This home makes for great holiday parties with the fireplace going, music playing and our tree perfectly situated in the corner of our living room. We enjoy our master bedroom and having "his and hers" closet space, with the view of the amazing eucalyptus tree right outside our windows. We love how easy it is to get to Harbor View Road from our house.

What can you tell us about your neighborhood of Harbor Oaks?

Our neighborhood of Harbor Oaks and its neighbors truly are the best. There are people of all ages and walks of life, and they've been such a pleasure to know and socialize with. There are neighborhood barbecues, Halloween parties, and spontaneous happy hours where the parents can chat while watching our kids run and play in the cul-de-sac. The people are so friendly, often helpful, and ready to help in times of need.  

What do you love about James Island?

James Island truly has it all! From the friendly people, fabulous restaurants, proximity to the beach, and 7 minute trip to the hospitals and downtown, the location, in my opinion, is the best you can have in Charleston. Our public schools are some of the best, and the island has a laid back, smaller feel. Everything is less than 20 minutes away, and being so close to the James Island Connector has been a blessing for our daily work commute.
 


Where do you love to eat on James Island? 

There are so many wonderful restaurants on James Island that my husband and I rarely have to go anywhere else. Our favorite is Mondo's, which has the best Italian food I've had in the south, which says a lot since I'm from a Northern Italian family. The view from Ellis Creek Fish House (a one minute drive from our house) is hard to beat. We also enjoy Bohemian Bull, Thai Elephant, White Duck, Smokey Oak, and Paisano's Pizza, which is our Friday night family tradition. And the brunch at La Tabella Italian Grill (at the end of our street) is always a nice treat on Sundays. 


Grocery stores and other conveniences on James Island?
Some convenient shopping on James Island include Harris Teeter and CVS, which are walking distance from our house. I've taken my kids in the carriage to run quick errands there many times. Starbucks is located inside the Harris Teeter, and for those that love fresh, organic food, Earthfare in Windermere is less than a ten minute drive. There is also a Gold's Gym and 24 hour Walmart just a few minutes away.

What do you love about the Charleston area?

We love everything about James Island. The proximity to downtown is so convenient and the quick drive to the hospitals has been a major blessing for our family on more than one occasion. The schools are fantastic, the people are down to earth and friendly, the restaurants delicious, the shopping convenient, the views of the ocean and marshes beyond relaxing, especially on your commute to and from work. It's just a wonderful place to live, raise a family, or retire because it truly has something for everyone.

 


Anything else? Neighborhood amenities?
The island in the middle of our cul-de-sac was landscaped and designed by my husband, which we've found a lot of pride in and many neighbors seem to enjoy. The neighborhoods behind us are also great areas to run and walk.
