Selling Your Charleston Home During The Holidays

Studies show that homes listed in December through March sell faster and closer to asking price than those listed during the rest of the year. First, there is less competition because many people take their homes off the market during the holidays or wait until spring to list. With less options, your home will be seen more often! Be sure to keep your house looking its best, so it is always ready for a showing. Second, buyers are motivated, rather than just browsing. Buyers who are taking the time to look for a home this month are serious about buying a home now. Some people may be starting a new job or relocating here in January, others may want to buy before the end of the year for tax purposes or for their children switching schools.   • Use the holidays as an excuse to make your home feel cozy. Play music lightly in the background, keep your house warm and inviting, and even have some freshly baked cookies out for buyers. Simmer cider or water with orange peels, cloves, and cinnamon to make your home smell great!

  • You can work with your agent to set a schedule of certain days and hours for showings. You can also give him/her blackout dates when you will not be able to show your home.
